House needs painting, must win lottery.
Seriously. I know painting the outside of a house is a LOT of work. I appreciate that. But $45 - $60 per hour???? Are you kidding me? I have friends that are nurses... helping to save human life... that only make $25 per hour. This just seems very strange to me. If I wasn't the messiest, least-detailed oriented, and just plain laziest person on earth I'd try to paint the ole homestead myself, charge myself $50 per hour, and go on a vacation with the money. I just think $3800 - $5000 to paint a 2400 square foot home is a LOT OF MONEY. What do you think? Am I being la cheapskate or am I somewhat right on this?
Have to go, another painter is coming by this morning with his estimate...
Happy Sunshine Saturday, (I hope)

Does it include the paint? Prep work? I know that includes all their equipment and such but yeah, it still seems like a lot.
Thanks for playing.
GOSH, THAT DOES SEEM EXTREME--HAVE YOU GOTTEN OTHER ESTIMATES? I THINK YOU SHOULD RENT SOME EQUIPMENT FROM YOUR LOCAL HOME IMPROVEMENT STORE, ORDER SOME PIZZA, AND BRIBE A BUNCH OF FRIENDS TO COME HELP! IT'D BE A BLAST! THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENT ON MY RECENT POST...I DEFINITELY THINK WE SHOULD KEEP EACH OTHER "IN CHECK"! IS IT WRONG THAT I'M EATING A BOWL OF FRUITY PEBBLES AS I TYPE THIS??! BACK ON THE WAGON...
Ah, don't I LOVE Spring Cleaning?
that's expensive!! i've heard of a negotiating trick that i haven't tried because i'm too chicken! :) i heard one lady once say that she has the best luck by inviting three different service providers (in your case, painters) to her house for an estimate, same day and same time. That way they get to duke it out in terms of price and you end up with a low price!
One of the pleasures of renting a home is that you don't ever need to concern yourself with such things.
I would take the holiday over painting the house but then that's possibly one of the reasons I don't own one :-)
best wishes and good luck with it all

Thanks everyone. You made me feel much better about not forking over that kind of money.
Hugs,

Hi Jan,
First, thanks for your comment on my blog--I'm sorry I haven't responded till now! It's been a busy month, but that's no excuse.
Is your sister doing better?
Re the painting, I would consider the company's business practices--do they use toxic paint, or earth-friendlier materials? Do they use energy-efficient vehicles? Do they pay their workers a fair wage? If so, then I would be willing to pay more to encourage those practices--if not, then I would agree with Cate that the rate sounds too high.
