Releasing from stress
Today was a flurry of frantic phone calls and problem-solving that then culminated in healthy tears and raucous laughter with best friends. I'd do it all again just to have that final sweet release with my buddies. I know that at the end of my life I will NOT remember how worried and stressed I was today but I will ALWAYS carry with me the memories of laughing and sharing with my dear friends. It will lift me through the darkest times and give me true freedom from worries and stress. Remembering that the present moment is all we have and that it can be a beautiful moment if only we recognize it as it is.
How do you let go of the things that plague you? Is it as easy as sharing nibbles and stories with friends? Do you go running? Or do you simply change the record in your head that portends gloom and doom and instead witness joy and optimism?
I hope that just coming here will be a balm for you and that we can take a few slow deep breaths together right now to celebrate this moment.
Breathing in contentment
Breathing out stress
Breathing in tranquility
Breathing out worry
Breathing in....peace
Breathing out....peace
Thank you for sharing another special memory with me today. I am so very grateful for you.
Namaste.

Looking to commute the sentence...
I'm working through the slow molasses-like quality of body and mind at war. I am trying to make healthy choices and move myself towards vibrancy but the part of me that still "craves" unhealthy foods (especially sugar) is at war with the rational part of me that understands that each poor choice is truly adding to my jail sentence. Each cookie traps me in this unhealthy body for a longer period of time. I'm going to breathe, be kind to myself, and try again. Do you find yourself at war with yourself sometimes? Are you a prisoner of your own cravings? I'd love to hear how you overcome your own resistance to change.

Celebrating independence...
Big things are afoot here and seeking new ways to be free are a-coming. Hang on to your star-spangled banners because it is going to be BIG! Actually, hopefully I'm going for small in a big way. I'm ready to get healthy again. I lost my way with my health and weight after a series of life upsets and now I'm ready to reclaim health and vitality. So watch this spot for updates on how yoga, walking, and mindfulness is going to bring me freedom from myself!
Namaste ya'll,

You are ADORABLE!
Just a suggestion for practice:
Step 1:
Look for all the ways in your life that you are cared for and adored. When you check out from the grocery and are thanked for your patronage, that is being appreciated. When you pick up your child from school, daycare, or camp and they smile to see you, you are adored. When your husband compliments your newest culinary invention, you are loved and appreciated. Simply witnessing your value in day to day terms is tremendously soul-enriching.
Step 2:
See yourself as a person that is totally deserving of this love, care, and compassion. Each time that you hear a critical little inner voice that tells you that something is wrong with you or your circumstances, stop the voice in mid-whisper and insert very deliberately the following words: "I Am Adorable". No matter what the situation or trial, simply state to yourself that you are adorable and a treasure on earth. No trash-talk allowed!
If you try this for even a few days you likely will be amazed at what happens. What have you got to lose anyway.... you're adorable, right?
With adoration,
Jan
With gratitude for Kay Allenbaugh's Chocolate for a Woman's Soul that gave me the idea for this practice. This is such a lovely and inspiring anthology. I highly recommend it!

Here comes the sun...
If you live in the Pacific NW you know how much this means... the sun is here! Everyone has been in such a funk lately as we had an epic sort of cold and miserable winter/springtime. But today, the sun is out and people are smiling. I feel something thawing out inside of me and I wanted to blog again. I hope my inner sunshine is starting to come back to play for good now. I've really missed blogging and sharing and I hope to start catching up with all of my bloggy friends again too.
Sending out warm rays of love and hopefulness to you all,
Jan
Here's some sun for you ala the Beatles!

YOU CAN-DO YOGA... and help the Oregon Food Bank!
Hi everyone,
I'm sorry I've been gone for so long. Color me blogged out and very busy but I'm ready to attempt a reprise of Can-Do Yoga in the Commonwealth Lake Park . Here's the scoop:
YOU: Bring your body, a mat, and one or two cans of food for the Oregon Food Bank.
ME: I'll bring my smile and crazy laugh to teach in the park.
WHEN: When the sun FINALLY returns... hopefully in June!
I'm aiming for these dates but if it is raining don't come! (well, you can come but this platypus will be at home!)

Laughter Yoga - Saturday, June 11, from 11:05am - 11:35am
Gentle Yoga - Saturday, June 18 from 10:00am - 11:00am
Healing Yoga - Saturday, June 18 from 11:05am - 11:45am (bring a bag lunch if you want to picnic afterwards)

Okay, that's as far as I can plan right now but hopefully you can join the fun too!
Love, hugs, and joy to you all,
Jan
